Hello Families,
Last Wednesday we had the great opportunity to meet with the Superior Fire Department. We had a inside class where we learned how to STOP, DROP and ROLL if our clothes caught on fire. We learned how we need to get low on the floor so we do not breathe in smoke. We also learned how important it is to have a special place to meet family in case of a fire. Most importantly we learned we need to call 911 in case of an emergency. Outside we got to practice some of the skills we learned by getting out of a pretend house fire we also got to tour the fire truck. The fire fighters taught us how important school is to learn skills to be a fire fighter!

Fun Friday
One way we celebrate our successes all week in class is Fun Friday. This week all students had many choices to play with Legos, Lincoln Logs, House Area, cars, computers and puzzles and games. Here are a few pics of this weeks fun.

Hello First Grade Families,
We have been super busy all week. I wanted to highlight
our math time. We have been learning how to work in math centers. Each student rotates
through 4 centers during Math Centers every day. Every student has the opportunity
to work on the computer on Starfall Math, Abcya Math or Johnnies Math Page.
These are all available online for free! Also the students spend time building
out math problems such as making groups of 10 or making partners or ordering
numbers. The skills will become more involved as the year goes on.
Also the students spend time working on skill practice such as addition,
subtraction, data, numbering, ordering,
making partners and so on. Lastly, the students
write about what they know about math. This process allows the students to be
creative and use content vocabulary to express their knowledge about math.

Welcome
Hello First Grade Families,
I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year! We are going to have so much fun learning in First Grade this year! In First Grade we be will be working on developing our reading skills to become fluent and expressive readers. We will also be working on taking our math skills to the next level. By the end of First Grade we will be adding double digit numbers and learning to do three digit addition. During First Grade we will learn all about families, changes in technology over time, animal habitats, all about matter, all about life cycles and much, much more in our science and social studies units.
I am hoping to be working closely with you to help you and your child get the most out of your child's First Grade experience. It is might hope to connect with you through this blog, through email and of course in person. I am hoping to use videos to help you with homework and reading instruction at home.
We will be practicing reading this year through an activity called Reader's Theater. These activities will allow your child to practice reading in many different voices and allow your child to pretend and play. I am so glad we are in this journey together.
Thanks for sharing your kids with me,
Mrs. Androsky
